How often should mulch be installed?

 

Depending on the thickness the mulch was last installed will determine when it should be installed next. Mulch installed 1-2" thick should be installed each year. When installed 3" thick you can usually go every other year.

How thick does sceLawnCare put down mulch?

 

We install mulch 2-3" thick depending on the customers preference.

What time of year is best to mulch?

 

For general all around landscape maintenance, we recommend installing mulch in early spring. This helps optimize weed control. However mulch can be installed at anytime.

Does sceLawnCare install weed barrier fabric before mulching?

 

95% of the time we do NOT recommend installing weed barrier fabric before mulching. Mulch is an organic material and will decompose turning to dirt. The result is dirt back on top  of the landscape fabric. Over the years the end result is multiple layers of landscape fabric with dirt between each.  As with all things, certain exceptions apply such as the playground mulch job in the photo gallery above.

100% of the time we recommend installing weed barrier prior to a new install of landscape stone in a flower bed.

Should the beds be edged?

 

You always want some sort of edge to the beds whether it is a natural trench edge or some sort of stone or plastic edge. sceLawnCare can install various types of edging from a simple dug/machined trench, plastic edging, and even elegant stone hardscaped edging.

How much does it cost?

 

Mulch costs start around $39 + tax per cubic yard. Labor starts at $68 + tax per cubic yard bringing the total cost of mulch installation in around $107 + tax per yard. Weeding, and edging are additional and we would be happen to provide you with a quote for your custom job.
